Evening for Educators
January 20, 2012 6 – 8 PM
Enjoy an evening of art, entertainment, and refreshments with your colleagues and family. This open-house event will provide you with an opportunity to get to know the Crystal Bridges collection and explore ways to make use of it as an extension of your classroom. The evening will include light hors d'oeuvres and beverages, entertainment, and curatorial-led tours of the collection. In addition, each attendee will receive the newly printed Crystal Bridges Teaching Poster.

Saturday Sessions
Saturday Sessions are immersive programs that will enable teachers to learn more about the artworks in the Museum's collection, and then incorporate them into the classroom. Teachers will focus on selected works in the collection through hands-on visual and language arts activities, as well as interactive dialogue in the galleries. In this session, teachers will have the opportunity to learn about historical events through the perspective of artists. Artistic intent and context will be explored through interactive gallery discussion, writing, and hands-on art activities. All materials and light refreshments will be provided. Three professional development hours are available to those who attend, approved by the State Department of Education.

Art and Monologue: Summer Mini-Institute
June 27 and 28, 2012

This two-day summer mini-institute will explore the portraiture of Crystal Bridges through the creation of monologues. Through in-depth gallery exploration, teachers will analyze the visual symbols and historical context in which portraits were produced. In collaboration with Trike Theatre, participants will learn the art and craft of developing and performing monologues. The mini-institute will culminate in participants having greater understanding of selected works in the collection. Participants will also learn about the benefit of using monologues to enhance language arts and social studies, and ways to translate the experience to the classroom for a variety of grade levels. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. Each participant will receive materials to use in the classroom, and 12 hours of professional development through the Arkansas Department of Education.

A Sense of Community

Join fellow members of the Arkansas Art Educators for this two-day professional development experience that will enhance your artistic and classroom practices. Combining intensive studio sessions and gallery exploration of artworks in Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, this workshop will explore the theme of community from three different, but overlapping perspectives: physical, emotional/spiritual, and cultural. The workshop will provide 12 hours of professional development. Cost includes most materials, breakfast, and lunch. Additional materials are suggested.
